Medium and high speed reciprocating internal combustion engines are most often equipped with brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE) oil coolers, although older technologies such as Shell are still used in some markets. Plate heat exchangers internally installed in the engine block are also common in high-speed engines with smaller capacities. The advantage of using an external oil cooler is that it simplifies maintenance procedures and the oil cooling capacity is effortless. We have a series of BPHEs specially developed for oil cooler applications with an output of up to 15 MW. They solve the challenges of limited external dimensions, fluid pressure drop, and high coolant flow.

The design of the plates is ideal for engine cooling, which means fewer plates are required and the maximum pressure drop available is maximized. Central coolers, lube oil coolers and jacket coolers are the most common application areas. When used as a transformer oil cooler, a special PHE with a double-walled plate configuration provides additional safety.
